Are you new to line management?
Are you feeling overwhelmed by these additional parts of your job, and doubting if you’ll ever re-gain an acceptable work-life balance? Perhaps some of your team are more experienced than you in their area of expertise but now you’ve got to tell them what to do? Maybe you need to recruit new staff, or help existing team members to develop their career or improve their performance? Possibly you are just feeling that there is something that you aren’t doing properly but you can’t quite work out what it is that will make you the manager you aspire to be.
How I can help you
I can work with you to unlock and decipher the challenges you are tackling. We break these down into manageable chunks, explore them in more detail, and use them as the foundations for developing a strategy to enable you to develop the skills, attributes and confidence levels you need to transform your management style.
My approach
Fundamental to my approach is listening to the individual I am coaching to gain an understanding of their issues and of what it is they want to achieve. I then encourage and challenge them to develop an action plan with tangible goals, which they own, and I hold them accountable for making progress towards their goals. I have been a line manager myself and so have first hand experience of the highs and lows of managing people.
My experience
I am a qualified coach with extensive experience of helping professionals and managers to find solutions to challenging issues such as creating good team dynamics, handling change, dealing with performance issues, or finding strategies for their personal career development or general confidence.
My professional background is in HR, an area in which I have worked for over 20 years. I have been an in-house senior HR practitioner and an employment policy expert for a trade body. I now run my own independent HR consultancy, which offers one-to-one coaching as well as advice to businesses on HR strategy and policy development.
My qualifications
I am a member of the European Mentoring & Coaching Council and have the ILM coaching and mentoring level 5 qualification. I am also an accredited Facet5 practitioner and Facet5 TeamScape coach.
I have a degree in politics from York University and a postgraduate diploma in HR management from Bristol Business School.
Practicalities
Before starting a programme, I have a complimentary 30-minute ‘chemistry’ meeting or call with you to explore what you are looking for from coaching, to answer any questions you might have, and so that you can assess whether coaching with me is right for you.
Coaching programmes typically comprise three to six one-hour sessions over a three-month period. This allows time for you to reflect, make changes, and develop your goals with my support.
I am very flexible about where, when and how I work with those I’m coaching. I’m also happy to meet you out of standard working hours – either earlier or later in the day - to fit in with corporate, family or other commitments.
Optional extras
I can provide access to the Facet5 personality-profiling tool and can also offer 360-degree evaluations should you find it beneficial to get input from your team and/or peers. There would be an extra charge for these, which we would agree in advance.
